You may apply for Net-Metering if you meet the following requirements: 

  • Your Renewable Energy (RE) system has a capacity of up to 100 kW (100 kWp for solar PV)
  • The Meralco account is registered under the same name as the applicant
  • Your account is in good credit standing, with no unsettled bills or outstanding balance at the time of application 

No. However, even for solar systems intended solely for own consumption, it is important to inform Meralco to ensure electrical safety, reliable system performance, and stable electricity service for the surrounding community.

If you do not intend to export excess electricity to the grid, you may signup for Zero Export (ZE) instead of Net-Metering.

It is important to inform Meralco about your solar system to ensure electrical safety, reliable system performance, and stable electricity service for the surrounding community.

    Depending on your installation, additional documents or requirements may also apply: 

  • Notarized affidavit and waiver for NM customers on REC meter installation, for customers who opted not to install a Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) meter 
  • Difference in Meter Cost (DIMC) Fee, collected from customers whose current meter does not have an import/export reading functionality, and will be replaced with a bi-directional meter. 

    In compliance with ERC advisory dated September 22, 2025, this amount shall not exceed ₱3,000 for residential customers, subject to applicable rules. 

A Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) meter measures the actual electricity generated by your Renewable Energy (RE) system.  

Under the 2025 Amended Net-Metering Rules, installing a REC meter is optional. Customers who choose not to install one may still proceed with Net-Metering. In such cases, Meralco will apply the ERC-prescribed methodology for estimating Renewable Energy generation, in accordance with Section 19 of the Amended Net-Metering Rules for Solar PV Technology:

A bi-directional meter measures electricity flowing in both directions: energy you import from the grid and energy you export back to it. This ensures that exported solar energy is properly recorded and credited under the Net-Metering program.

Most homes are equipped with a uni-directional meter, which only measures electricity consumed from the grid. If you are not enrolled in Net-Metering and do not have a bi-directional meter, the excess electricity your solar PV produces may be recorded as imported energy from Meralco, which will inadvertently increase your bill.
 

A Distribution Impact Study (DIS) is a technical evaluation performed by Meralco to assess whether the distribution system can safely and reliably accommodate a customer’s proposed Solar PV / RE system interconnection which identifies potential concerns such as power quality issues, safety risks, and system limitations. The DIS determines whether distribution system upgrades or reinforcements may be needed before interconnection can proceed.
